Hospo hype review

This cafe/bar is decked out to look and feel like a New York apartment, complete with pop-art colour palette and abstract artwork there is a  bedroom, bathroom and lounge room.

There’s even a TV, fish tank, board games, and foosball table, so it’s easy to make yourself at home and forget that this is in fact St Kilda, and not Manhattan. quirky décor makes 29th Apartment an ultimate eclectic Melbourne hangout for those late-night loving student and backpacker types, Open early, the place is a cosy little cafe by day, and transforms to a trendy pizza bar come evening (and just plain bar even later). Sit back and enjoy a little taste of the Big Apple.

29th Apartment

Ultimate Melbourne | Aug 19, 2010 | Ultimate Melbourne

When this nifty little number invites you “upstairs to my place”, it doesn’t take you long to feel right at home. Yep: it’s a bar that looks exactly like someone’s apartment. If their apartment was as cool as all-get-out. And full of merrymakingstrangers. And had a DJ playing in the bathroom. Popular with locals looking for something different and beachside backpackers up for a living room boogie. Buzz yourself up and make yourself at home

Feeling homesick? Does the hostel leave you feeling hungry for some domestic familiarity? After six months of living out of your backpack, do you hanker for a night on the couch with mates and a beer? Well, the 29th Apartment in Fitzroy Street, St Kilda could be just what you need.

Styled to resemble a New York apartment with all the comforts of home and the added bonus of a fully stocked bar, an ample larder and plenty of staff to cater to your every whim, this apartment of a kind is your home away from home. Located between the iconic Prince of Wales Hotel and Cafe DiStasio, the 29th Apartment contributes to the eclectic mix of cafes, bars, restaurants and retail outlets that gives Fitzroy Street its infamous reputation as a destination for those with a bent for abandon. Places like this come and go almost as fast as the itinerant collection of patrons they attract, but the 29th Apartment just might have the vision it takes to stake out a longer term position on this strip of St Kilda so well known for its inconsistent shades of light and dark.

A menu of nibbly things, pizzas and share platters range from $5 to $29 and a drinks list of local and important beers (including St Kilda Brew), ciders and wines by the glass or bottle are priced to please. Service operates until very late, seven nights a week, which is handy if you find yourself out in the cold with no place to call home.
